Senior U.S. Attorney Taeseon Kwak is currently working as an international arbitrator at the International Arbitration Center of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board while practicing general corporate law at S&L Partners. Attorney Kwak is a governance expert with both legal knowledge and extensive investment experience. Attorney Kwak advised multinational corporations on loans, joint ventures, and M&A transactions for five years at Coudert Brothers, an international law firm in New York. After that, he contributed to the globalization of the Korean capital market as the head of the research department and deputy branch manager at Baring Securities. Attorney Kwak established Asset Korea (now Baring Asset Management) as a partnership and grew its asset management scale to KRW 11 trillion over 25 years.

Attorney Kwak has been active in various fields. He has experience in alternative investments as a member of the Private Investment Committee and Chairman of the Investment Subcommittee at Korea Investment Corporation for four years, and as an outside director and Chairman of the Fair Trade Subcommittee at KT for three years, where he experienced the governance structure of large corporations. He also served as a member of the mid- to long-term investment policy committee for the National Pension Service Fund Management. He is currently an audit committee member at Hanmi Science Co., Ltd.

Attorney Kwak, along with the S&L litigation team and other environmental lawyers, has conducted the first climate lawsuit against the government in Asia. On August 29, 2024, the Constitutional Court of Korea ruled that the current law is unconstitutional because the greenhouse gas reduction target is not legally binding from 2031 to 2049. It ruled that it violates the rights of future generations. The Constitutional Court ordered the National Assembly and the government to revise the law by February 28, 2026.

Law Offices of S&L Partners is one of many law firms of the Law4 global network. Each law firm in the network is an independent law firm. Engagement of one law firm in the network does not create any attorney-client relationship with or any liability on the part of any other law firm in the network.
